Responsibilities:
Mooring Master manages ocean-going oil tanker lightering operations to ensure that safe and environmentally sound operating procedures and weather parameters are followed. He ensures that officers of both the lightering vessel and the vessel to be lightered are familiar with and comply with safety requirements established in order to avoid oil spills and potentially life-threatening collisions. He utilizes his authority to terminate any lightering operation when the safety of the vessels and the crews or environmental protection so requires. He ensures that vessels are of suitable design and condition to begin lightering operations and utilize authority to terminate operations if vessels are not suitable. He advises masters of both tankers in same manner as a pilot. He supervises vessels’ approach, maneuvering into final position, mooring and positioning of the lightering hoses. He continually monitors the transfer of oil into the lightering vessel to ensure that no leaks or spills occur. He supervises the disengagement of hoses and maneuvering of vessels upon completion of the operation.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Current Foreign Going Unlimited Master License with all valid STCW endorsements.
- Minimum 3 years command experience on crude oil tankers.
- Good knowledge in English
